Waverly (or Waverley) reminded me of the Melbourne suburbs Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley. However, there are no ancient buildings overlooking our Waverleys. The name also reminded me of the first of Sir Walter Scott’s historical novels which he called ‘Waverley’. It was set in 1745 and the hero became part of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s army which was eventually defeated at Culloden.
