I had not heard of a Greyfriars in Perth as there is a famous one in Edinburgh. It was the setting for the Disney film ‘Greyfriars Bobby’ which was about a Skye Terrier that frequented Greyfriars and stayed for fourteen years by the grave of its master.
The name ‘Grey Friars’ was given to the Franciscans because of the colour of their simple robes. After the Reformation, the Greyfriars Monastery, (I think that it should have been called a Friary as the Franciscans were friars rather than monks), at Edinburgh was destroyed, but later a Kirk was built for the Church of Scotland. I suppose that Greyfriars in Perth would have been destroyed at the same time because John Knox did some preaching at Perth.
