    The peregrine falcon is a most impressive bird and has been popular for hundreds of years because of its hunting ability. Its swoop is the fastest of any bird. It was so highly regarded that in the middle ages only nobles were allowed to own them. Apparently they put fear into other birds and have been used at airports to keep birds away in case they fly into jet engines. At Sandown racecourse in Melbourne, they were used to keep gulls off the track after a horse had its chance of winning a race ruined because it had been struck by a gull flying past. You did well to get so close to one in the wild.
